PTEN — Folded Ribbon Model
Description
The folded ribbon model of PTEN, a tumor suppressor protein.
The amino acid chain of PTEN folds into a defined three-dimensional shape, guided by the chemical interactions between its building blocks. This piece renders the folded ribbon model — the structure through which PTEN acts as a tumor suppressor.
Third in a series following the central dogma of molecular biology: DNA sequence, protein sequence, folded structure. A protein's shape, and therefore its function, follows from the sequence written in its gene.

Studio
Genetics of Design is a studio that translates scientific and geographic datasets into printed work. Each piece begins with a public record — road networks, genomes, star catalogs, species data — and is published alongside the provenance of the data it came from.
