We create custom pen-plotted artwork, from personalized genetic visualizations to algorithmic portraits and location-based maps.
What we can create
Commission work covers the same ground as our collections, built around your subject:
- Personalized genetic art: visualizations derived from your own DNA data (e.g., from 23andMe, AncestryDNA, or clinical sequencing).
- Portraits: algorithmic pen-plotted portraits of people or pets, like our Sampson commission.
- Location maps: street networks, terrain, or topographic data from a place meaningful to you.
- Scientific visualizations: custom pieces exploring a specific gene, protein, organism, or dataset of your choosing.
How it works
1. Consultation
We start with a conversation about your vision: what you'd like to see, the data or subject matter, size preferences, and timeline. Once we've agreed on the scope and price, a 25% deposit is required to begin work.
2. Data handling
If your piece involves personal genetic data, we handle it with care. Files are transferred securely via encrypted email and a privacy agreement is signed before any work begins. Your data is used solely for creating your artwork and is deleted upon completion.
3. Design proof
You'll receive a digital mockup for approval before we plot. Up to two rounds of revisions are included.
4. Production
Your piece is drawn by pen plotter on your chosen paper stock. Optional: we can provide a timelapse video of the plotting process.
5. Delivery
The remaining balance is due upon approval of the final design. Your finished artwork is carefully packaged and shipped, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and the production video if purchased.
Pricing
Commission pricing varies based on complexity, size, and data requirements. We'll provide a clear quote after our initial consultation.
